How a French Drain Works

Surface Water Collection
Rainwater or runoff enters the system from the surface above the drain or through nearby collection points.
Topsoil Layer
The upper layer of soil and grass remains undisturbed, allowing the area to look natural while still absorbing rainfall.
Geotextile Fabric
A permeable cloth lining the trench that prevents soil and debris from entering the gravel and clogging the system.
Gravel or Crushed Stone Bed
Surrounds the perforated pipe; creates space for water to flow freely while filtering out sediment.
Perforated Drain Pipe
The core of the system — collects water from the gravel layer through small holes and channels it away via gravity.
Trench Slope
The drain is installed on a gentle downward slope (about 1 inch per 8 feet) to maintain steady water flow toward the outlet.
Water Flow Direction
Water seeps downward through soil and gravel, enters the pipe, and moves along the trench toward a discharge point.
Outlet or Discharge Area
The endpoint where collected water exits — often a dry well, ditch, storm drain, or lower-grade section of the yard.

Why We Do What We Do
We are Jen & Las Lugosi, and we started a company called L Squad Landscape Solutions several years ago because we absolutely loved providing beautiful ideas to our customers and then bringing them to life in their backyards. However, after several floods at our home due to summer rains, we had to find a way to get the water away from our property, or risk losing the foundation of our home. While researching solutions, we found a system where a gentleman named Chuck, was teaching homeowners how to build pump assisted French Drains to mitigate standing water issues. We tried it at our house – the system worked SO WELL, that we have never had a water issue again! We were sold!
We closed our Landscape company – and opened L Squad, Inc – French Drain Installers. Now, we are building and installing Pump Assisted French Drains for homeowners in Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay area. That joy and happiness we felt when we were able to design a beautiful backyard for someone is still there – in fact, it is even better because now we get to provide solutions to homeowners and small business owners that will allow them to enjoy their properties without standing water or soggy grounds! We install French Drains – that is ALL we do! We do it with passion and we do it knowing that with every install we close, we are giving our customers a better outdoor experience!
We want to say thank you to all our clients who have allowed us to install our French Drain water management system at their homes and we look forward to working with YOU in the near future!
